The rules for using this site. The giveaway has its own rules, and where the two disagree the giveaway rules win.
This is a drafting frame in the campaign's voice, not legal advice. It should be read by counsel alongside the giveaway rules and the privacy page before the September 2 launch.
Who runs this site
This site is operated by the Surrey Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 1271, 18922 88 Avenue, Surrey, BC V4N 5T2. Using the site means you accept these terms.
We are the union, not the fire department
The Surrey Fire Fighters Association is the union representing fire fighters employed in Surrey. It is not the City of Surrey, and it is not Surrey Fire Service. Nothing on this site is an official communication of the City or of the fire department, and nothing here should be read as one.
For emergencies call 911. This site is not monitored and cannot be used to report one.
What this site is for
Sound the Alarm is issue advocacy about fire service staffing, fire hall coverage, Surrey's growth and voter turnout, and it hosts entry to a giveaway. It does not endorse any candidate, elector organization or party.
The information here
Figures on this site are the Association's own claims about the service its members work in, presented with the source we drew them from. We publish them in good faith and correct them when we are shown to be wrong.
Voting dates, locations and procedures come from the City of Surrey and Elections BC. They are the authority on how to vote, not us. Check with them before you rely on a date you read here.
Acceptable use
Use the site for its purpose. Do not try to break it, scrape it, overload it, submit entries by automated means, enter more than once, or submit anyone's information but your own. We may remove entries and block access where we believe any of that has happened.
The giveaway
Entry to the giveaway is governed by the giveaway rules, which are part of these terms by reference. Where these terms and the giveaway rules disagree, the giveaway rules apply to anything concerning entry, eligibility, the prize and the draw.
Your information
What we collect and what we do with it is set out on the privacy page. Entering the giveaway and joining the mailing list are separate, and consent to the list is never assumed.
Our name and mark
The Surrey Fire Fighters Association name, the IAFF Local 1271 mark and the Sound the Alarm campaign identity belong to the Association and its affiliates. You may link to this site freely. Do not reproduce the mark, or present yourself as speaking for the Association, without written permission.
Links to other sites
This site links to the City of Surrey, Elections BC, and Mailchimp, among others. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for what they publish or how they handle your information.
Not endorsed by the platforms
This campaign and its giveaway are not administered, sponsored or endorsed by Facebook, X, or Meta Platforms.
No warranty
The site is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available without interruption or free of error.
Changes
We may update these terms during the campaign. The date at the foot of this page is the version you are reading. Material changes to the giveaway rules will be noted on that page.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
